Collection: Body Double
Milk Fed, the debut album by Oakland five-piece BODY DOUBLE, explores grief and addiction, intimacy and consent in the arch style of a drag mass. Singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist CANDACE LAZAROU (previously of MANSION and PANG) wrote and recorded most of the album herself in the wake of the Ghost Ship fire and ending long-term relationships with people and drugs. The songs on Milk Fed conjure grand guignol imagery and dramatic arrangements from a period of deep withdrawal. The spiritual vision board for the album was Brian Eno's Taking Tiger Mountain, Wire's 154, Bowie’s Berlin Trilogy, and Tones on Tail. We also detected a hint of The Need, which was verified at press time. The result is a whomping debut with Lazarou's take on zipped-up post-punk, dour new wave, and expansive psych dirges.
